FRIDAYS ARE SUCH A WASTE WHEN YOU’RE OLD

maxine stuff around the house

I remember the good ol’ days when Fridays meant fun…looking forward to a night on the town, hanging out with friends, relaxing after a long work week. Now, I look at it as an extension of the weekend which is more likely to involve cleaning the basement or garage or just lounging around the house doing nothing but watching sports on TV and eating stuff I swore I wasn’t going to eat anymore.

I’m too lazy to write a real post today…so this is an OPEN THREAD. What are you guys doing this weekend? Please tell me it’s more interesting than what I’m doing, I hate to think you’re as boring as I am.

  1. Ironing, shampooing the hall carpet, clipping the dogs’ nails, laundry, paying bills, dealing with life’s baggage. Whee!

  2. Boodoggy- Wow…you have my life. Most of all I’ve been hanging around Uppity’s blog. I’m actually going to ditch this place and go shopping in a little while. I need to get my Christmas shopping done early so I can ship it out to the kids. My grandson was very specific on what he wanted…a DSI and it has to be a black one. He knows where to go for the good stuff, he informed his younger niece to always ask Memom for the good stuff, she’ll never let you down.

  3. What’s wrong with doing absolutely nothing, huh? Actually, I’ll be at work tomorrow, that’s exciting, right?

  4. Randal- I guess the grass is always greener on the other side…and it smokes better, too. ;-)

Boring can be a good thing Nunly. No blood pressure swings. No stress. Enjoy the weekend.

    Laugh a little.

Well, yesterday (Friday) our community was involved in offering a Sung Requiem Mass in the old rite (Tridentine) for a 94 year old lady who was a great and faithful Catholic (the first Mass of this kind in over forty years in the parish church which is the oldest Church in the immediate area)…the whole “nine yards” of chant, Latin, incense, holy water, etc…it was tiring, but great…
and today, we had our monthly meeting of all our members (laity, religious and priests) which is another marathon…tomorrow, High Mass at our new location thirty miles from here…and tomorrow afternoon (Sunday) total collapse…but that’s the life of a monastic community.
Both dogs needs their nails trimmed; one needs a bath (seriously!!), the other thousand details of living sometimes go undone, but somehow, we say our prayers and do what needs to be done. Not complaining….I COULD be the father of ten (in another life!!) or have to deal with “bed bugs” and so I do not complain (much):<)!
Enjoy the leisure, you who are able!

  8. Nazareth Priest- Holy cow! I’m exhausted just reading about that schedule! That must have been some Requiem Mass! Our Parish has a Tridetine Mass at 5:30 every Sunday, but I’ve haven’t gone to it since they started doing it. It’s been ages…will have to brush up on my Latin.

Oh…and keeping up with nail trimming on the dogs, what a job! I’ve bought one of those electric nail sanders and it doesn’t freak out my dog as much as the clippers. She has those dark brown nails so it’s hard to know where the quick is. At least when I file them down I can do it a little a time and less likely to cause any bleeding. She’s too big to bathe at home so we send her to a groomer every 4 to 6 months.

Ugh..and the bedbug problem is still a work in progress. The exterminator went to my mom’s again yesterday…we’ll see how that works out. So far…none in my house. I hope it stays that way!

  9. the towncrier- Geez…the nose story was hilarious! I guess crime doesn’t pay, eh?
