There is no doubt that the secular media in the US has been out for Catholics for a long time. Not to mention, our President and politicians who refuse to acknowledge or comment on the current persecution of Christians today.
Well, I thought I’ve heard it all….until I read this story about a University of Notre Dame Professor who discounts that Christians were ever martyred or persecuted and that it’s all a myth (which of course, she wrote a book to correct this tragic misconception).
I can’t say it any other way, but what the bloody hell is this twit talking about?
It’s all a myth? Oh my, Candida Moss, you are really a piece of work. And her last line about there still is no Christian persecution going on in the world today? Seriously.
Maybe she missed the news this month about the American Pastor who has been imprisoned in Iran because he refuses to deny Christ while under torture? Or, how about the Christians in Nigeria who are being slaughtered by Islamic extremists?
I guess the Communists in China never laid a hand on a Christian, regardless to evidence which says that Christian persecution in China had risen over 40% in 2012 and continues to rise?
Here’s a recent one in Nigeria:
In one the worst incidents since Thursday, February 21, suspected Muslim attackers used machetes and guns to murder 10 members of the same Christian family in Plateau state, with half the victims under the age of six, the military and government confirmed.
“A [Christian Berom] family of 10 were … murdered” by Muslim Fulani herdsmen said Pam Ayuba, the governor’s spokesman, in published remarks. “Five little children including a two-month-old child were slaughtered.”
Maybe she was so busy doing her “X-Mas” shopping that she missed the story of the Copt Christians who were gunned down as they left Christmas services in their church?
Ya know, I can just about tolerate everything said, no matter how ignorant, but this is beyond the pale. This woman is a Yale graduate and a Professor of a CATHOLIC university, and this stinkin’ bigot still has a job there. Either Notre Dame should fire her ass, or quit trying to market itself as “Catholic”.
I can’t help but wonder if she’s also a Holocaust denier.
It’s not good to get Nunly pissed, especially during Lent. I haven’t given up beating the snot out of biggoted elitist snobs like her. Damn, I am so close to having to go to Confession. I have the feeling God just might allow me one punch to the head of Professor Moss , don’t you think? Just hard enough to rattle some sense into her.

yeah that’s pretty ridiculous given the wealth of even non-religious sources, both then and now! While the persecution under the Roman empire was hardly consistent or systematic, it did happen! Also, I’d love to see her spend a week in Pakistan or something and see what she thinks.
Though wasn’t this the school that let the prez speak? If it’s anything like one of our Catholic universities here, where the head of the religion department isn’t religious at all, I wish I could say I was more surprised. (the RC school I went to for a year of high school didn’t say the creed and our theology teacher pretty much threw out everything and was pretty wacky).
That being said, I went to a lent thing with my folks and their neighbors and it was really good and kind of refreshing in light of dealing with prior absurdity!

Prunella- Yeah, Notre Dame certainly has proved itself to be the faux Catholic Univerisity that it is. Any Catholic institution that would give honors to Obama, the one President who seems determined to take away our rights of conscience with a pentalty of hundreds of thousands of dollars if we refuse to comlpy, ins’t exactly the type of guy how should even be allowed to step foot on a Catholic University.
Not to mention, the vast amount of history which can be proven of the persescution of Christians by the Roman’s is indisputable. She can close her eyes to it if she wants, but she’s no better than the Holacaust deniers. Bodies in ovens and mass graves? What bodies? What Concentration camps?? Changing history by denying it, is just so….Communist.
Mcnorman- Unfortunately, Notre Dame has built itself up to be one of the big name Universities, but they are far from Catholic and more liberal than most colleges. Unfortunately, our own Bishops have allowed this to happen, because the money they make in tuition is more important than the education they are supplying to the students.
Randal- I once saw a multitude of “Elvi” dropping from the sky in parachutes at Cellular Field on Elvis Night. He kinda multiplied like loaves and fishes. Go figure. I would have been more impressed if they did it without parachutes, though.
Absolutely mind-boggling that anyone can deny that Christians are and always have been persecuted. Astounding. What do people like that read, anyway?
